In cooperation with the Mural Arts Program of Philadelphia, Philadelphia-native Stephen Powers initiated A Love Letter for You, a public art project consisting of a series of 50 rooftop murals from 45th to 63rd streets along the Market Street corridor. He conceived of the Love Letter project in the spirit of Cornbread, an early graffiti hero. Cornbread, he explains, wrote tags in order to attract the affections of his boyhood crush, a classmate named Cynthia. “He wrote all over the neighborhood. He wrote on every bus. He wrote over her locker,” explains Powers, and it’s a creative expression he stands by today. “Just spray painting ‘I love Mary’ connects with more people than a beautifully articulated ‘wild style’ train.”  Source

At a recent wedding held in Philadelphia, the talented Bryn Chernoff of PaperFinger created illustrated table cards of famous landmarks throughout the city for the couple’s event.

I wasn’t sure how to title this post exactly but this is one amazing invitation. Created by Jordan Gray Creative for the musician Denison Witmer and his wife, who loves to knit. The all encompassed self-mailing invitation has two fold-outs for directions and the rsvp. Nicely done. View the high-res photos on Flickr.

I just magically stumbled upon Grit City Inc., an independent publisher releasing books that they would buy. Based in Philadelphia here’s a great quote from their site – “Our books are a tangible, beautiful expression of people and their stories. GritCityInc. is all about community love – must be our Philly roots coming through.”

I’m really interested in the soon-to-be-released Tatted. Cited as revealing the emotion associated with the permanent art of the tattoo. The book has 160 pages filled with essays, interviews and photographs by Marianne Bernstein.
