Jeffrey’s Grocery
What an amazing place. While I admit, I’m in love with the digital world, something about a well-designed shop makes me want to hop in my car and get out of the house. Look at Jeffrey’s Grocery in New York (of course), it’s stylish, comforting, and well thought out. Just take a look at some of the details – I’m in an envious state, and hungry. Via Read More
Vintage Maps
I decided to take a very imprompu trip to an antiques store today, and came across these maps for a second time. This time I had to get them. The smaller maps have a lovely black/aqua/orange color palette and the large one was printed in 1936 and is in fabulous condition. Most of them are of Canada but I also bought one of New York with a great illustrated map (upper right on the last photo), but I have no clue when it was printed. I’m not... Read More
Dress Code
Dress Code is a New York based design company with expertise in motion and branding. MTV seems to really like them and so do most of their clients, and I would too if I received this kind of work from my design company. Dan and Andre both graduated from the California College of Arts and landed in New York where they both teach classes at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. View a video of the two designers behind the studio and the work in this video. I... Read More
Roanne Adams
A graduate of Parsons and once an employee of Wolff Olins, Roanne Adams has a trove of good work on her site. Roanne runs a multi-disciplinary studio out of New York City with a quite impressive client list. But the client list isn’t just for bragging works, just take a look at the work and you too will understand why some of the largest brands have gone to Roanne Adams for their design needs. I really love the work above for Parlor, the... Read More
Scott Campbell
It’s no secret that I am an admirer of the tattoo world and the artistic ability involved to do them. Scott Campbell is in no way an exception. His lettering and art is beyond that of a traditional tattoo artist and I am digging his work. And it seems Scott is a hot commodity, he is no longer accepting appointments due to a full schedule but if you are still interested he is taking some on a first come-first serve basis in his Brooklyn studio. I’m... Read More
Tablecloth
I love this New York tablecloth on the sweetshorn shop at Etsy. I love the hand-lettering of the New York in the center and the surrounding illustrations are filled with character. Read More
Cooper Union
Cooper Union has a fresh new look. Dimensional, colorful and full of new life. Am I a fan of it? Not yet, but maybe it will grow on me. There’s a good overview on The New York Times by Steven Heller pointing Doyle Partners as the creator. “to design a logo that “transcends history, tradition and culture; and to embrace the future.” I’m unsure about the “embrace the future” portion because decades ago the public... Workshop
Yesterday at 8:00am I boarded a Bieber bus with my sister Deanna, and her girlfriend Chimae, heading towards New York City to take our first ever letterpress workshop at The Arm NYC in Brooklyn. I can’t begin to tell you how great of an experience this was, Daniel Morris (the owner of The Arm) was an excellent teacher. First showing us a little demonstration on the press and then allowing us to jump right in to print and then experiment on... Read More
