Super Furry

Too bad I have no idea who Super Furry is except for what’s on his Flickr page, but damn is his work good! Love all of the hand-lettered type and the fun shapes in his logos.  Read More

Icon, Logo or Mark

I’m working on a [fill in the blank] for someone and I don’t know what to call it. Is it a logo? Is it a mark or is it an icon? I’m not sure but I’m still working on the end result – client satisfaction. I sketched out with pencil at first and then in pen/marker a few rounds of different symbols … oh wait, is it symbol? Could be. And have picked out 9 of the best to present to the client. How do you present your ideas... Read More

Cody Haltom and Public School

Wow, I’m just finding all sorts of fun sites today. Another one to watch is Cody Haltom, a graphic designer from Austin, Texas. His work is at a high level and that goes for his classmates at Public School too. I adore the above card with it’s perforation, wonderful idea and well executed! And I have to say I love the addition of the dog into the photos, who can resist? Also, over at the collective Public School, which Cody is part... Read More

New Work – StarPlayr

One of my routine things in my day is listening to Sirius. It was a gift at my first year with Hanlon Creative and I continue to renew my supscription each and every year. It’s on from the moment I get into my car until the time that I get out. Once I get into the studio, I start up my Mac and open my StarPlayr app. I’ve tried listening to it online, have even tried other apps, but none comes close to that of NiceMac’s application... Read More

Oh, Romeo!

Pentagram has done it again. And in fact, I might say this every time I see their work but it’s true! A team lead by the london branch’s John Rushworth has created this remarkable new identity for a luxury hotel called ROMEO. Fitting for a Neapolitan-family owned business featuring it’s landmark hotel on the Bay of Naples. The logo is to-die-for with the letters crashing into each other to create an intimacy between their forms.  Read More

Cooper Union

Cooper Union has a fresh new look. Dimensional, colorful and full of new life. Am I a fan of it? Not yet, but maybe it will grow on me. There’s a good overview on The New York Times by Steven Heller pointing Doyle Partners as the creator. “to design a logo that “transcends history, tradition and culture; and to embrace the future.” I’m unsure about the “embrace the future” portion because decades ago the public... Read More

Louise Fili

My inspiration for today is the amazing Louise Fili. She is the owner of Lousie Fili Ltd., a design studio that specializes in logos, packaging, restaurant, type, book and book jacket design. Lousie was a senior designer for Herb Lubalin for two years during the late 70′s, an art director of Pantheon Books from 1978 to 1989 and has received much recognition for the designs created. She has been an author and co-author on several books, one... Read More

Designing a Killer Logo

Vectortuts There’s a great article over on VectorTuts on The Process of Designing a Killer Logo which breaks it down into two categories Type Treatments and Type Mixed with Image Treatments. Where to begin? As always, start with pencil and a piece of paper. It should always start there and then you can jump on the computer and take it into the digital realm. Recommended reading, absolutely.  Read More

New Work

I’m working on a new branding project for my upcoming adventure. I’ll give you a hint, it has something to do with weddings. I haven’t decided which version to go with yet and I’m working on the stationery but how cool would business cards be die-cut with this this shape? So cool. And I think I have just the printer to do it.  Read More
