Love Is In The Air
With Valentine’s Day less than one month away I came up with a cute little idea for a paper airplane with a trail of hearts. It was made for my husband but that is in addition to a much better gift which I will be posting about the process later on this week. I put these up for sale in my Etsy shop if you would like on of your very own. I will even hand-write a special message on the inside of the plane if you’d like. Read More
Distaff Day
Have you ever heard of Distaff Day? Yeah, me either. But here’s a small history of January 7th, also known as Distaff Day: The day after Epiphany (January 6) was traditionally the one on which women went back to work after the 12-day Christmas celebration. A distaff is the wooden rod (staff) that holds the flax or wool on a spinning wheel. The term distaff came to refer to both women’s work and the female branch (distaff side) of the family.... Shadow Puppets
I found these adorable laser-cut shadow puppets by Isabellas Art while browsing on Etsy last night (from the Gotta Etsy app on my iPhone) and immediately fell in love. My 6-year old and I made some a year ago, simple ones such as dinosaurs, fish, and sharks and we had a blast. It’s amazing how much fun you can have with a flashlight, construction paper, and wooden skewers. Read More
Letterpress Made Simple or Diminished?
The craft of letterpress has a long history and has gained popularity as it’s equipment has been hard to find and creates a quality like no other for printing projects. Recently a company called Lifestyle Crafts has released the L Letterpress Combo Kit that allows anyone to have a letterpress-effect on stationery. I saw it with my own eyes in AC Moore yesterday which led to this post, the effect looks nice but what about the letterpress industry? While... Read More
Stitching in a Moleskine
I’m quite taken with stitching lately, particularly the kind done by hand. Over on the website What Katie Does, Katie created this phrase using hand-stitching for the Travelling Moleskine Project. I’m envious, it’s so beautiful. The script, the colors, the phrase, what a great combination. Read More
DIY Lanterns
Paper Source recently launched their blog called P.S. and I just adore this how to: paper lanterns article. Using paper (from their 26×20 paper of course) you use rolled up paper for the center tube and then cut strips to form the lantern! Classy and fun – and would make a great conversation piece to put a group of them together! I think I might add a few to my bedroom. Read More
Score!
My husband was out and about yesterday and stopped at a nearby Antiques Barn to pick up this ‘cabinet’ (if that’s what you call it) for me! I’ve wanted it for weeks but every time I would stop they weren’t open. Well he’s just nice as peaches to have picked it up for me. YAY! Don’t mind the messy garage in the background! The ‘cabinet’ has finger-pulls for the drawers and craftsmanship all over.... Read More
Paper Cuts without the Sting
I love stumbling on people making original things and one of my favorite is type, and another is cut paper…put them together and you get Julene Harrison. Julene’s blog is new to the scene but you just don’t come up with this kind of talent overnight, her work is precise and absolutely gorgeous!!! If she isn’t striking it rich yet, I hope she’s prepared because the moment the public gets wind of her, she’s going... Read More
Logical Ceramic
Most times ceramics are organic, handmade and fluid. But for Anouk Omlo, they are logical. The Helica series is inspired by mathematical patterns using Fibonacci spirals and the Golden Ratio. Beautiful, inspiring, and logical. Read More
Paper – One of a Kind
New Blue Mix I really love when artists take something as simple as paper and make into something truly beautiful. And I’m not talking about origami or printing, I mean taking paper and making something unique. Over at frazier and wing, they’ve done just that. The one of a kind and mobiles are beautiful and would bless any home with it’s texture and color combinations. And don’t miss the frazier and wing blog filled with more... Read More
