Buy, Design, Vote and Change.

Social Designer, Goods for the Greater Good encourages the design community to create fun, socially-relevant graphics for goods and a percentage will go to charity. So you have several options; you can design and submit your goods, buy goods, or vote on goods. All good things to do, stimulate the economy, stretch your creative muscles, and help in some needy causes along the way. The site is brought to us from Design 21, a Social Design Network

The New Whitehouse

Not only did the Whitehouse get a new website, but it also seems to have taken on a whole new light. It’s respectable, but not intimidating. And thanks can be given to the new administration and it’s transparency with the general public, letting us in to see what’s going on. The president and his family are real and not just figments, they are a true American family. I’m not overly-patriotic or political, but this new administration gives me a good feeling for authority. No more “damn the man” feeling, god bless (the new) America. What prompted this post? The Whitehouse has an official Flickr page with a plethora of photos that allows the American people…

Type High YAMS

A fun contest over at Typophile to craft the name of any food out of the food itself. Some are really bending the rules but I came across  Acme Art and Design’s Type High YAMS by Michael Barker and thought all of the type addicts would love it! I can’t link to his comment/submission only, so you’ll have to look through all of the comments if your on a mission to find the original.

Poor Girl Gourmet

Are you a person who likes to eat fresh healthy foods? Or do you need to eat on a budget? (Don’t we all?) Then head over to Poor Girl Gourmet where she provides recipes for amazing foods at easier to swallow prices. Amy, the author of the blog strongly believes that a recession should not allow us to result to eating bad foods also known as cheap foods. (I won’t name names, *ahem*) So what are you waiting for? The recession isn’t over and may not be for some time.  Below is the recipe on my to-try list, Butternut Squash with Maple Cream Sauce. My mouth is watering. So head on over and get some…

Pop Up on Video

This has got to be one of the coolest music videos ever, it features two large-sized pop-up books that tells a story to go with the song. Adorable! The song is by Lisa Hannigan from her new album Sea Sew and the pop up books were created by Jamie Hannigan (a relative to the singer?) and Maeve Clancy. Thanks to Design Sponge

Picture of Science

Do you wonder what it would look like if someone mapped the behavior of scientists’ when doing online research? Johan Bollen is attempting to visualize a new “map of science” with a high-resolution visualization of how information is accessed based on scientists’ downloading and browsing behavior, also known as clickstream data. Read the article over on SEED magazine.

Paper Expo

There’s a paper expo you know. It’s this Wednesday at the ADC Gallery, are you going? It’s from 5:30 – 8:30 and will feature a ton of paper companies dying to give you samples, you should go. There was  reminder sent to my email and it featured the above graphic, so many details that I just couldn’t resist sharing. View it in it’s true form here.

Joe’s Thoughts on IE6

Ha! I got a good laugh out of these confrontational pages for Internet Explorer 6 users by Joe Lifrieri. Take a gander and feel free to laugh out loud as I did. Oh, if you don’t like foul language, DO NOT view these because you probably won’t like them strictly for that reason.

New Moleskine Site

Moleskine has revealed a (beta) new website! The most intriguing feature is the new MSK format where you can layout a page and print it to fit your moleskine notebook (see image below). Pretty nice feature although I’m not sure if I’ll use it, I’ll have to at least give it a try.

Sweet Photos with a Twist

Another lovely find for the day, Liz Wolfe, a Canadian photographer who has sweet photos and many of them with a unique twist! The images conjur up the feeling of Martha Stewart with a dash of Alfred Hitchcock on some of them and I just adore the oddity in them! I love anything octopus or tentacle related, such beauty in nature already exists, all we  have to do is pay attention! Liz has a small shop on her site where you can prints of her collections, click here to visit!
