Homemade Films
A while back I contacted A Bryan Photo about documenting some family trips using Super 8 films. They have recently introduced a new package called Homemade Films. You get to borrow one Super 8 video camera, a LOMO, and a Holga. Also included is the film for both and a video tutorial DVD on how to use all the cameras! Once you’re done, you just mail the kit a back to them and they will process, edit and present them back to you in final form. Can you say, fantastic IDEA?! My family goes on about three camping trips every year, and I know one day those will come to an end. How great would…
Phos Pictures
Thanks to a tweet from Chris Cashdollar, I am officially immersed in the film work of Eliot Rausch and Phos Pictures. It began with Last Minutes with Oden, and then Pennies Heart. One by one I came to see how incredible these films are. I can’t even begin to explain how wonderful, so just watch.
Russian Criminal Tattoo Archive
I’m obsessed with tattoos. Tattoos are a completely different art form in my eyes, and even though I only have some small ink on my back I relate to it in a big way. Fuel has just released the Russian Criminal Tattoo Archive, a collection of more than three thousand tattoo drawings made by Danzig Baldaev during his time as a prison guard between 1948 and 1986. There are three volumes in the Russian Criminal Tattoo Encyclopaedia, available to purchase on the Fuel website and there is an exhibition in London featuring photographs by Sergei Vasiliev from October 30 – November 28.
James Moes
Some of the cutest couples and engagement photos by James Moes, a Seattle-based photographer. How sweet are these shots?! And even though weddings are beautiful, I think engagement sessions show the true love between two people. Sigh…
The Pacific
Love these stunning images by Jake Stangel from his series called The Pacific. This just confirms that I have a need to travel to every destination possible before I die. via
Fallen Constellations
Just beautiful images of fallen constellations, and I love the collateral to accompany it.
Digital Holga
Seriously, this would be awesome. I use my iPhone for all of my Holga effects even though I have a perfectly good Holga sitting right next to me, but the instant results of the is something I prefer when capturing images on the fly. The Holga D concept was created by Saikat Biswas for the Holga lovers out there who want instant results (me!). And his design of the product is just gorgeous. It’s minimal appearance is lovely and keeps the intrigue of the Holga (somewhat) alive. While I can’t imagine it would produce the random light leaks that everyone loves from Holga, it can produce something similar for those who like the Holga effect….
Amazing Animals
Tim Flach captures some amazing images of animals. I don’t think the images of the animals could get any more beautiful. Visit his site to see even better images, you will want to see them. Believe me. Via
Compfight
Are you one of those designers who loathes looking for stock photography? Join the club. A new search engine called Compfight has been developed that uses the Flickr API to discover photos/photographers. Created by Ryan Teuscher. And it’s the seekers responsibility to make sure that they have the rights to use the selected image, be responsible. via @dirka
Tina Dolin
Facebook has it’s advantages, one being that I discovered Tina Dolin Photography thanks to a friend. I immediately became a fan after viewing her work. And best of all? She’s local! Her style is elevated in comparison to many of the photographers in my town and she really has an eye for composition when it comes to her images. I’m a huge fan of photojournalism and the most natural looking shots which you can see in each of her images. Not a single image looks overly-posed or staged.
