Grit City Inc.

I just magically stumbled upon Grit City Inc., an independent publisher releasing books that they would buy. Based in Philadelphia here’s a great quote from their site – “Our books are a tangible, beautiful expression of people and their stories. GritCityInc. is all about community love – must be our Philly roots coming through.” I’m really interested in the soon-to-be-released Tatted. Cited as revealing the emotion associated with the permanent art of the tattoo. The book has 160 pages filled with essays, interviews and photographs by Marianne Bernstein. I like this Tattoo Script T available to purchase on their site too!

TAYLOR gourmet deli

Today I just received my first issue of Dwell after re-subscribing. and one story (among many) that caught my eye was a story about two childhood friends who grew up in the Philadelphia area and moved to D.C. to open up a deli. They are not designers, but they have designer’s eyes. Together they created Taylor Gourmet Deli, a hoagie shop featuring an industrial style with chain link fencing, skid pallets, exposed brick, and a roll-up aluminum garage door with many more reusable materials that makes for an amazing space. And that’s not all, above the deli is their living spaces that are just as impressive. Casey Patten and David Mazza are the creators of…

Darwin in Philadelphia

Yes, that Darwing. The APS Museum (or the American Philosophical Society) in Philadelphia is featuring Darwin’s original manuscript of Origin of Species. Is Darwin one of the first information designers? He very well could be with this manuscript. I always wondered if these were illustrated by Darwin himself or if he outsourced the work to local artists. I guess the only real way to find out is to go visit the exhibit. Any one else want to go? Visit the APS Museum on Twitter.

Letters & Ligatures and News

I made myself drive to the Letters & Ligatures show in Philadelphia, and not because I didn’t want to go but because I hate going out at all really. But this show was worth facing the public and weaving through a crowd to see the perfectly cut letterforms and bright colors exhibited by House Industries at the 222 Gallery. News And the NEWS. I am officially freelancing FULL Time. So if you are in need of design work or know of someone who does – send them my way. Visit my website at fayeandco.com for more information.

Letters & Ligatures TONIGHT

Tonight is the opening reception for Letters & Ligatures in Philadelphia at the 222 Gallery. Are you going? I am. I don’t venture out much so if you want to meet me now would be the time! Visual nomenclature fuels language, facilitates communication and forms the basis of a civilized society. Without standardized lexigraphy, we could not create the essence of truth, allowing history to pass on the tongues of those who change it to suit their needs. Written language is also crucial to our cultural survival. It tells us when to stop, where to go, who to see and what to desire while providing the syntax of our earliest memories and our final thoughts….
