I don’t know why or what it’s for, but I like it. Papirmekanik is mechanics with paper. There are several other posts on the artist’s website.

Gail Armstrong

Gail Armstrong creates complex engineered paper sculptures for a variety of projects. One that particularly grabbed my eye, was the Kleenex Feelings campaign. Each representation shows good and bad situations and how Kleenex will be there for either outcome. Amazing designs.

United Fakes

Wow, I’ve been truly admiring stop-motion and video work and have never really tried my hand at it. I am in awe of the work of UnitedFakes. reel 09 from UnitedFakes on Vimeo. And not only do they show the finished pieces, they also show the “making of” in several of their projects. I really admire there use of not your everyday materials and willingness to play and experiment.

Sarah Illenberger

I wish I could pinpoint her style but I would say it’s a mash-up of craft meets high-end design. The paper, the texture, the typography… it’s all there. Sarah Illenberger is a visual artist/designer in Berlin who on occasion will team up with a photographer, but the majority of her work is solely hers. There is much, much more to see on her website. “What initially sounds quite abstract, in reality, is mostly practical in that her creations are not generated on a computer but rather by meticulous handwork, sometimes incorporating the most mundane materials.”

Hearblack

I feel like they came out of nowhere, but I’m loving the stationery of Hearblack. And I love their other offerings, like Jar of Ocean, and Driftwood Heart. So romantic.

Paper Porn

If you’re one of those people who loves to look at paper but not purchase it, this is the place for you. There is the Paper is Lovely tumblr site and the Lovely Paper Blog all by Dawn, a self-taught paper artist living in Texas. I originally found her thanks to @paperfinds on Twitter who linked to her Flickr feed, I nearly hyperventilated from exhilaration!

Mums the Word

I just received my Paper Source catalog in the mail and this Mums Wreath Kit caught my eye, but for another purpose. These flowers would be great to use in a wedding for groomsmen, combine them to make a bride’s bouquet, or other decorations. I know you folks are crafty and could make it happen. Aren’t they great?! The kits costs just $19.95 from Paper Source. Not your colors? Well you could always use the kit as a template and make your own flowers using your colors!

Love Paper

In an effort to bring the paper company closer to the design community, Fedrigoni UK opened doors to it’s London showroom in 2008. The posters were designed by Richard Nabarro to entice designer by emphasizing the creative possibilities of paper. In fact, this just gave me an idea. Fun! Via

Paper Surprise

My day went from okay to phenomenal thanks to a lovely arrival in the mail. Not one, but TWO surprises. The first is #6 of Uppercase Magazine arrived, I can’t wait to dive in. If you aren’t a subscriber, I highly recommend that you become one … now! But if you can’t swing it, Janine lets you flip through a digital version online. Second, a very unexpected package from SwaySpace thanking me for a lovely post on their Knot journal. You’re welcome and thank you for the package of goodies, I feel like a little kid today!!!

Vintage Maps

I decided to take a very imprompu trip to an antiques store today, and came across these maps for a second time. This time I had to get them. The smaller maps have a lovely black/aqua/orange color palette and the large one was printed in 1936 and is in fabulous condition. Most of them are of Canada but I also bought one of New York with a great illustrated map (upper right on the last photo), but I have no clue when it was printed. I’m not sure what I will exactly do with them yet, but I have a few inklings.
