Sketchbook Project 2011
Well my part of the Sketchbook Project 2011 has ended. I did as much as I could before shipping it off to the lovely folks at Art House and have to admit, I had fun! Here’s what came out of my little brain with a pencil and an arsenal of markers and pens: View all of the photos from my book on my Flickr page. All photos were taken with my iPhone, I didn’t want to focus on taking professional photos, so apologies for the quality.
Mister Freedom
Why have I never heard of Mister Freedom before? And I am only now aware of it because of a bandana that I spotted on J.Crew. The branding alone of this company makes me immediately fall in love but the products? From vintage items to clothing, seriously who could resist? I am seriously wowed. You need to go gawk at this stuff like I am.
Paper Tattoos
I’ve posted about his work before, but this is completely new. Jacob Dahlstrup Jensen is now tattooing paper. The technique gives the appearance of an embroidered look, don’t you think? And it seems I’m not the only one mesmerized by tattoo art! And Jacob, if you read this – I would love to see you do a ship or ocean themed tattoo on paper. Just a small request. Via Design Crush
Homemade Films
A while back I contacted A Bryan Photo about documenting some family trips using Super 8 films. They have recently introduced a new package called Homemade Films. You get to borrow one Super 8 video camera, a LOMO, and a Holga. Also included is the film for both and a video tutorial DVD on how to use all the cameras! Once you’re done, you just mail the kit a back to them and they will process, edit and present them back to you in final form. Can you say, fantastic IDEA?! My family goes on about three camping trips every year, and I know one day those will come to an end. How great would…
Holiday Dining
I am so envious of the style and images by EmersonMade. How easy is that look? a kraft paper runner on top of a white table linen.
Florist Cabinet
…or as I would have liked to call it, the most amazing piece of furniture EVER!!!! I spotted this Antique Victorian Cabinet, sign painted for use as a florist’s sundries cabinet. I am in LOVE! But of course, it’s sold – as it should be. The Ingermills cabinet is dated from the 1880′s and is marked as being on Floral Street in London! I would fill this cabinet from top to bottom with all of my stationery and supplies, it would be oh-so perfect. Now what piece of furniture can I adorn with my hand-lettering? Don’t tell my husband.
S.A.S.E. Club
This little illustration is too cute, but what really struck me was that Invisible Creature is having fun with some old fashioned participation using snail mail. Why? Because we all like to receive good ol’ mail. So all you have to do is send them a self-addressed stamped envelope (decorated in some way) and they’ll fill it with goodies. I’m already planning mine out, oh, and you only have until September 1 and you have to get creative with your envelope! Read the details. “Regardless of your artistic ability, we ask that your envelope addressed to us be creatively designed or illustrated. No rules, anything goes – and we’ll post the coolest ones on Twitter.”

Feeling inspired by these three font designs inspired by traditional Polish embroidery by Iwona Przybyla.
Flag Ephemera
Kit Hinrichs talks about flag ephemera on the Felt & Wire blog. Swooning…. This is the sort of thing that I would pay WAY too much money for at a flea market or antique extravaganza, I’ve been known to do that.
Paper Surprise
My day went from okay to phenomenal thanks to a lovely arrival in the mail. Not one, but TWO surprises. The first is #6 of Uppercase Magazine arrived, I can’t wait to dive in. If you aren’t a subscriber, I highly recommend that you become one … now! But if you can’t swing it, Janine lets you flip through a digital version online. Second, a very unexpected package from SwaySpace thanking me for a lovely post on their Knot journal. You’re welcome and thank you for the package of goodies, I feel like a little kid today!!!
