Paper Tattoos

sailorsgrave-detail4

I’ve posted about his work before, but this is completely new. Jacob Dahlstrup Jensen is now tattooing paper. The technique gives the appearance of an embroidered look, don’t you think? And it seems I’m not the only one mesmerized by tattoo art! And Jacob, if you read this – I would love to see you do a ship or ocean themed tattoo on paper. Just a small request. Via Design Crush

Sketchbook & Work

What’s been going in my sketchbook? Sadly, I must say not much. I take a break every so often and this just happens to be one of those times. But I have a few things to share. I’ve been trying my hand at screen printing. Well, I got the screen thing down, but not the printing part yet. I’ve been testing out different graphics and this is the first one that worked. Although it’s so muddy looking. Anyone wanna offer me some advice? Getting organized. This pin board helps me keep track of all the lovely people who are trusting me with their stationery needs. I drew this for a baby shower client, but didn’t…

Jeff Bridges

Jeff Bridges is everywhere. Not just because his upcoming films Tron and True Grit are highly anticipated, but because of his artistic abilities. JeffBridges.com features artwork completely hand drawn … by him. It’s really impressive and completely unexpected for an actor. I mean, where does he find the time to draw? And in addition to that, Esquire allowed him to bless the cover of their UK edition with his hand-drawn typography and replaced the logo with his handy-work. Unbelievable, right?! It looks amazing! +

I am completely and utterly inspired by the work of Keegan Meegan. It’s been a short five months since I last visited the site, but man-oh-man is it chock-full of goodness! From hand-lettered packaging for handmade tattoo guns, to Save the Dates featuring an anchor design, to an amazingly beautiful letterpress birth announcement. What a talent, seriously. Wow, I’ve been truly admiring stop-motion and video work and have never really tried my hand at it. I am in awe of the work of UnitedFakes. reel 09 from UnitedFakes on Vimeo. And not only do they show the finished pieces, they also show the “making of” in several of their projects. I really admire there use of not your everyday materials and willingness to play and experiment.

I am completely enthralled by this image from Santiago Caruso. If it were in a museum, I would stand there and stare at it for a very long time. Via Designers Go to Heaven

Sailor Roman

I have no idea how I missed this on the Cosmo Sapiens site, but luckily Courtney of Design Work Life shared it on her blog. So I had to also post it here, because it’s just too good not to share. The Sailor Roman identity is hand-drawn ecstasy. Tattoos + design = my heaven. Romain is a french illustrator who works for Cosmo Sapiens, but after meeting the famous old school tattoo artist Sunny Buick, she agreed to take him on as an apprentice. Sailor Roman is his project to develop a modern/traditional sailors tattoo spirit based on his childhood taste for adventures stories. So was born Sailor Roman.
