Tyler Bender Book Co.
I L-O-V-E these handmade books by Tyler Bender. He takes abandoned books and gives them new purpose by crafting them into something new. His store on Etsy has lots of good ones but I couldn’t help myself but to look through the history of sold items. Wow! Here is what you can do to order your own custom book from Tyler: -Custom handbound notebooks, journals, sketchbooks, artist portfolios, scrapbooks, baby books, wedding registries, cook books, fashion look books, independent music packaging, limited edition publications, zines, etc. Feel free to use your imagination… -Cover and inside materials chosen by the customer may be anything new or used, including but not limited to: souvenir t-shirts, upholstery, wallpaper,…
4000 Alphabet & Letter Motifs
I received an email about pre-ordering this book today and thought it might be interesting. Sometimes looking through tons of fonts on a computer can be taxing on the eyes so I tend to like looking through books. 4000 Alphabets & Letter Motifs: A Sourcebook features “a lavish treasury of elegantly rendered typographic and calligraphic alphabets from the familiar Roman letters to scripts inspired by Runic and Cyrillic writing—along with numerals, music, and other symbols” that are copyright free. You are free to copy, trace and use them in any way that you wish. You can pre-order the book by by Graham Leslie McCallum from Amazon.com which is due out on August 4. The author…
Typographic Desk Reference
Introducting The Typographic Desk Reference. I have to admit, you probably can’t have too many typographic books around when you need one. Any one will do but this looks like the have-all for typography nuts like me. The foreword is by Ellen Lupton, and if you wanted information on typography she is the go-to gal for it. She calls it the “Ultimate tool for the type geek.” I won’t fill you up with details because you can get all of the information you need from the website, right here.
Gebrauchs-Graphik 1952
I love hunting in antiques stores and this weekend my keen senses helped me to find a wonderful publication on International Advertising Art in German and English. It features grand examples of design in advertising and I could not resist becoming the owner of it. Though it’s mostly in German many of the parts have an English translation with it making it an ideal find. Take a look below at some of the snapshots of it’s pages. Ooooh, you love it to don’t you? I barely even browsed through it at the store but knew it had to be mine as soon as I picked it up. Once I got home and began leafing through…
Ray Fenwick’s Upcoming Books
I am a fan of Ray Fenwick’s occasional email’s and in one recent sending, he announced the release of two books; Hi: 30 Postcards and Fuck You and Your Blog journal. Both books cost just $9.95 and are being released by Chronicle Books on the following dates; June 17 for Hi: 30 Postcards and July 15 for the Fuck You and Your Blog journal. Each book features Ray Fenwick’s great humor and of course his wonderful illustrations.
Visual Aid from Draught
I just saw the work by Draught Associates and needed to share their designs for Visual Aid, a book designed and compiled in-house. Cool graphics and looks like it’s a fun book!
Sara Fanelli
I got an email regarding the new book Sometimes I think, Sometimes I am by Sara Fanelli, and never hearing of her before I had to go check her out. Her portfolio includes pieces with magnificent illustrations and hand lettering. I really love the mix of textures and colors. At the top of the post is my favorite, Gallery entrances and Timeline at Tate Modern in London. I would be gasping if I saw this at a museum if not expecting it. It’s just a gorgeous display!
Macaroon Mania
I don’t know what it is about little desserts lately, but I can’t resist this book. I’ve been dying to make Macaroons since getting my Baking Handbook by Martha Stewart for Christmas. Maybe I’ll be a bit productive some time this week and whip some up. These little beauties are by pastry chef Pierre Herme but I can’t seem to find that book above anywhere and look at that packaging! Gasp! So adorable. The image above was found on one of my newest finds, the blog (I can’t remember! But I’ll find it and post it soon.) Cannelle et Vanille! Beautiful photos and great recipes!
Melanie Marder Parks
I am in illustrated book cover heaven since finding Melanie Marder Parks’ website (thanks to the simple + pretty blog). I just love the hand-lettered touch and illustrations on them!
Under Consideration
It seems the dynamic duo of Armin Vit and Byrony Gomez-Palacio, also known as Under Consideration, have been hard at work on some emerging projects. They just launched the new Word It site which branches from the even more well known Speak Up and have posted some new photos from their upcoming book, Graphic Design, Referenced. At the moment I’m indulging in the pages of Women of Design, also by the Under Consideration team. “an ever-growing source of original design and imagery as well as a continued metaphorical gym for the creative mind we have decided to spin off Word It into its own blog” WordIt is now it’s own living breathing blog with user-contributed…
