America

I won’t go too deep here, but last night before watching the new flick “The Expendables” there were two commercials that focused on American-produced cars. I wish we could bring much of our production back to the US for products other than cars, and I realized this the other day when my son and I were having a discussion during lunch. Nearly everything at our table was made in China. He was trying to read something on the bottom of his toy, and it just said CHINA. Everything I picked up from then on was stamped or printed with Made in China. It saddens me.

I like the recent commercial for JEEP, whether it’s playing to folks like me who wishes of this dream or not – it’s effective.

It frustrates me that a clothing company with the word “American” in it’s name has it’s pieces created in Malaysia or Thailand. The company resides in Pittsburgh, PA but outsources all of it’s production. And while I understand they are trying to create a viable company, I feel that they are only trying to create more profits for themselves. Yes, if you bring production into the US, the costs of the clothing will go up. But will quality go up as well? I don’t know.

American Apparel has found a way to do this. Why can’t others? Aside from many expressing their disliking of the owner, he has kept the production in Downtown LA.
