May Day
Shepard Fairey has produced some nice portraits for an exhibit titled May Day, and this one of Keith Haring (a Kutztown-native) has got to be my favorite! “These people I’m portraying were all revolutionary, in one sense or another. They started out on the margins of culture and ended up changing the mainstream. When we celebrate big steps that were made in the past, it reminds us that big steps can be made in the future.” If only I could get one of these prints… Via
Made Shop
Today I finally got to visit Made Shop in person! What a great shop filled with well-designed objects from the 20th and 21st centuries and a nice selection of the owner’s (Tess & Dave) jewelry, lighting, and sculpture! I even got to chat with shop owner, Tess for a moment. She was super nice and allowed me snap photos with my iPhone for this post! Looking around at their selection, I just could not resist these miniature modern Eames chairs (shown above)! They are hanging out on my desk until I find a more appropriate place for them. If you are in Kutztown or in the vicinity, definitely stop in!
Watercolor Type
I saw this on the Served newsletter from Behance and I just dig the watercolor typography by Sasha Prood.
Very Victorian
Over at A Field Journal, author Livy created a very victorian packaging suite for her loved one to open on his birthday. How sweet, right?! But it’s all in the details as they say. Just look at how it’s all put together including the tag. Love it!
Growing Pains
The ladies over at Craft MBA and Scoutie Girl are writing this week about Growth, and Megan of Craft MBA hit home with her second point of “You need to match your growth expectations to your lifestyle choices.” Well said. When I was working full-time for someone else, I was able to balance all of the other parts of my life because it was what I was used to. Now that I’m making the most at my attempt to be a one person company, I am now aware of all of the things I didn’t know that I was missing. For one, the amount of time that I get to spend with my family. I…
Andrei Robu
I love taking an occasional stroll through my contacts on Flickr and finding some amazing work, Andrei Robu for instance. He has interesting lettering and design work. Love Flickr.
Beautifully Banal
Some of our (yours and mine) favorite designer’s have created posters from classified ads and made beautiful pieces of design to auction off. The posters are in a series called Beautifully Banal for the TDC. via @swissmiss
Vintage Maps
I decided to take a very imprompu trip to an antiques store today, and came across these maps for a second time. This time I had to get them. The smaller maps have a lovely black/aqua/orange color palette and the large one was printed in 1936 and is in fabulous condition. Most of them are of Canada but I also bought one of New York with a great illustrated map (upper right on the last photo), but I have no clue when it was printed. I’m not sure what I will exactly do with them yet, but I have a few inklings.
Type from Objects
I love these letters made from objects by Andy Lund. They are so clean and neat.
cleanwash
I love the darling work from cleanwash. The website isn’t up and running yet but you can view a few samples of work on the blog or visit the cleanwash etsy shop!
