Sept. 22
The wedding day. It was one of the best days of my life. A huge party in honor of our love, what could be better? Though, things weren’t all peachy. I lost my voice, and I didn’t just lose it … it was non-existent. On the night of the rehearsal I was mouthing words (seriously, I couldn’t even whisper) to my husband-to-be and not able to join in all the jolly conversation that was going on. My bridesmaids and I were thinking of unique ways to do my vows if my voice didn’t return. Cue cards? Ventriloquism? No. I drank lots of hot tea, committed to my antibiotics, and had a humidifier by my side all night. I had bronchitis. On our wedding day.
I couldn’t sleep, I was up at 3am filled with excitement. I can’t believe we’re getting married! I knew he was the guy for me very early on, it was as if he calmed my soul. (Corny as it may sound but there’s no other way to explain his effect on me.) I can think back to our special day and I get flutters around my heart. Strange how love can make you feel. And thankfully my voice came back just long enough for the ceremony.
Our family and friends made it so much more special. My mom handmade my wedding dress and bridesmaid dresses, it was a total DIY wedding and we made it all happen (for the most part) on our own. Our son was our ring bearer and a cute one at that (even if we did have to bribe him with a lollipop to get him to walk down the aisle). I remember one specific moment when my uncle and godfather came up to me and said “You really are in love aren’t you?”… I responded “Yes I am” and he said “I can tell”.
Dustin and I wish we could relive that day all over again (and plan to) with family, friends, and each other. And I couldn’t be happier with the decisions we made and the time that we had. It was our perfect day, well almost. We could have done without the sickness, but it makes for a fun story!
Thanks to Scoutie Girl for the inspiration on her post!
