Sept. 22
The wedding day. It was one of the best days of my life. A huge party in honor of our love, what could be better? Though, things weren’t all peachy. I lost my voice, and I didn’t just lose it … it was non-existent. On the night of the rehearsal I was mouthing words (seriously, I couldn’t even whisper) to my husband-to-be and not able to join in all the jolly conversation that was going on. My bridesmaids and I were thinking of unique ways to do my vows if my voice didn’t return. Cue cards? Ventriloquism? No. I drank lots of hot tea, committed to my antibiotics, and had a humidifier by my side…
The Tenfold Collective
Some really nice branding work from The Tenfold Collective, a design studio located in Loveland, Colorado.
Jordan Clarke
This isn’t my usual cup of tea, but there’s something about Jordan Clarke’s work that has drawn me in. I first stumbled upon her blog, The Art of Jordan Clarke, through a random search and it is officially in my RSS list. Great blog, great artwork … who could ask for more?!
Alice
The Working Proof is an online print gallery and shop with the mission of promoting both art and social responsibility through a series of limited-edition prints. And one of their most recent releases is Alice, a print by Katie Kirk to benefit Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation. I love the colors and the illustrations are so adorable.
Helen Musselwhite
I am at a lost for words, speechless really. Helen Musselwhite of the UK has some amazing skills with cut paper. Just look.
Diagrams
As you know I’m a fan of good looking information, and these diagrams hit it home. Sarah Selepouchin of Girls Can Tell, draws wonderful diagrams and then silkscreens them on to housewares that can be purchased from the Girls Can Tell store. If you are an Etsy seller or seller of handmade goods, you may want to check out her and her crafty partner’s business called Super School. Sarah and Allison provide consulting services to handmade businesses and also provide a few free tips in their Lab Lessons section.
Great Showdowns
I don’t know what generation you’re from, but if you love film like I do (and not in a snobby way) – then you’re going to love Great Showdowns by artist Scott Campbell. Scott is art director at a video game firm called Double Fine and is posting a new Showdown each day. I can’t get enough! Oh, and even if you’re not in my generation … my 6 year old even got a kick out of these drawings from these movie classics. This is a chronicling of some of the greatest confrontations in FILM HISTORY. The greatest moments of melee. These are the GREAT SHOWDOWNS.
Caskata
I was recently looking for some unique paper, and came across something new – Caskata. Caskata is the work of Shawn Laughlin a modern and organic designer who’s work is on tableware and paper products. I was really drawn to her subject of choice, nature.
Red Nose Studio
Red Nose Studio’s Chris Sickels does some really amazing work, and recently has begun featuring images of the process on his blog. On a recent blog post, hand-lettering is shown for the book Here Comes the Garbage Barge. His work goes far beyond illustration including models and animation, check him out! And if you live in or near Cincinnati, Ohio – Chris will be signing books on March 26, click here for more info.
Conor Harrington
Another link that I’ve had bookmarked for almost a year (if not longer) and can’t believe I have not posted about it yet. Conor Harrington is an artist, and more specifically a painter. His work combines the art of traditional painting with the roughness of graffiti art into powerful work that stuns me. Conor is originally from Ireland but resides in London where he struggles to fight the label of graffiti artist and emerge into that of a painter. There’s a really great Q&A with Conor on his blog where you can also view much more of his work and his process. Insanely beautiful!
