Saw Chip Kidd and all I got was…

I went to see Chip Kidd speak last night and all I got was… an entertaining experience! His presentation was funny, amusing, and inspirational. He didn’t boast about just how impressive his work is (and it is impressive), but he showed the work that was rejected and told the stories that went along with each project. It’s great that he can recall each of those moments and bring them together into a simple and effective presentation.

And after the talk there was a long line of admirers who were feverish to meet him and to get his autograph. I had a book and a poster signed for my personal collection, and I grabbed some extra posters from the event. Did you miss it? Then write a comment below on one of your biggest design failures funniest client rejections and I’ll pick two winners to receive one copy of the poster (shown at right below). Winner will be picked on Feb. 28th.

Video shown at the event where James Ellroy coins Chip Kidd as the “supreme genius of dust jacket design”. That has to be the ultimate compliment, which I would have asked if Chip thought so during the Q&A session if there were more time.

And much thanks to The Society of Design for bringing him to appear! Up next from the SOD is Modern Dog. Oh, and if you’re in the Philadelphia area, Chip Kidd will be speaking at Tyler on March 24.  These posters will not be at that event.
