Seasonal Food Calendar
My husband and I are participating in our community garden this summer, and I cannot wait. I have a black thumb, apparently a green thumb is not hereditary – either that or my sister got all of the genes for that trait. I really look forward to trying it out, we love fresh food and get most of our weekly food purchases at our local Farmer’s Market. But this Seasonal Food Calendar would definitely come in handy for anyone. Created out of type by graphic designer, Joel Richardson, the calendar is for sale at Bella Cucina in Atlanta (no luck finding it on their website). Any of my readers out there live in Atlanta? Pick…
Cut Brooklyn
I’m a fanatic of kitchen wares. Cutlery, pots, pans, potholders, towels – you name it. Thanks to someone on NotCot, I am a fan of Cut Brooklyn. Joel Bukiewicz designs and crafts professional-grade kitchen cutlery. He handcrafts each pieves with the finest materials, and pays attention to details. He offers all of the knives he builds an in-shop service free of charge. He makes them all to order and is wait-list at this point is 12 months. He has a variety of colors available too. So who wants a custom-crafted knife? I do! I do!
Picket Line
Why am I writing to you today about picket lines? Because design/advertising are much like a picket line, where nothing is more effective than a good message with great lettering. The image above is from the first picket line in 1917, (image source, Wikimedia)
Ingeborg
I am loving the type family Ingeborg by Typejockeys with gorgeous weights. I especially love the Fat and Block styles.
Ketchup n Mustard
The work of Jaime Van Wart (under the name Ketchup n Mustard) is mind-blowing, and she’s not a designer by profession – she’s a programmer for IBM’s Lotus software group. All right, calm down! She studied at the University of Pennsylvania as a fine art major, only to continue at the College of Design at North Carolina State University. Her work has (as she notes) yet to be noticed: In her spare time she puts her OCD to good use by obsessing over typography and designing original typefaces and custom lettering that will certainly be published at some undetermined point in the hopefully not-too-distant future. Are you kidding me?! Her work is fantastic and if…
Glass Antlers
Last night while perusing the online guide of DirectTV, a show on Wheaton Arts caught my eye. One artist that jumped out at me was Charlotte Potter who was creating antlers out of glass. Some were clear and some were black and each were tediously made. I wish I had more photos to share with you but I don’t. You can view the program I watched, follow this link: New Glass at Wheaton and click on New Glass at Wheaton entire show to see Charlotte form the antlers and other artists. Only available at the NJN (new jersey public television) website.
Michelle Armas
I have to thank Michelle for visiting and commenting on a previous post which lead me to her amazing paintings! Michelle has switched her focus from graphic design to fine art and sells her work on Big Cartel if you’re looking for affordable art. Michelle also posts her inspiration and interests on her blog filled with beautiful images. I’m a huge fan of geometry and these are just phenomenal! I wish I could put my finger on it – this one (below) reminds me of an album cover I once saw in my father’s collection. I just can’t recall.
Invitations in Progress
I really can’t wait to see the client’s reaction to these invitations. I’ve given them the main idea (being the accordion format) but they haven’t yet seen the design. I really hope they like them, and if not, you’ll be seeing them in my upcoming collection anway – I love them! I’ve even created approval stickers now, so I have a signature from the client and the exact invitation selected so there aren’t any mix-up’s. Sorry about the low-quality photos, I only had my iPhone handy.
Lovely Logo Refresh
It’s amazing to meet up with people that I went to high school with and find out about their life adventures, many of them own businesses and in this case … several. But it was very exciting to hear that this project was going to be a bit of fun for both of us. See the last image for the final design. The updated logo is very similar to the original design, but that was only after realizing that the options that were presented just weren’t what she was looking for. It took her a long time to build up her reputation in the area and she didn’t want to stray away from that. I…
Exprescion
Excprescion was a unique event in Las Vegas for Scion. Nicely done by Chris Ro are invitations, a website, and more.
