ATTACK

Of course, right before the holidays I find amazing design work to share with you. I hope you’re still around your computers, because this is a good one. ATTACK is a multidisciplinary creative team at Wieden+Kennedy New York.

Film9 Collective

A nice mark for Film9 Collective created by Ketchup ‘n’ Mustard. Something about the appearance of a seal gets me every time.

Mister Freedom

Why have I never heard of Mister Freedom before? And I am only now aware of it because of a bandana that I spotted on J.Crew. The branding alone of this company makes me immediately fall in love but the products? From vintage items to clothing, seriously who could resist? I am seriously wowed. You need to go gawk at this stuff like I am.

Paper Tattoos

I’ve posted about his work before, but this is completely new. Jacob Dahlstrup Jensen is now tattooing paper. The technique gives the appearance of an embroidered look, don’t you think? And it seems I’m not the only one mesmerized by tattoo art! And Jacob, if you read this – I would love to see you do a ship or ocean themed tattoo on paper. Just a small request. Via Design Crush

Sketchbook & Work

What’s been going in my sketchbook? Sadly, I must say not much. I take a break every so often and this just happens to be one of those times. But I have a few things to share. I’ve been trying my hand at screen printing. Well, I got the screen thing down, but not the printing part yet. I’ve been testing out different graphics and this is the first one that worked. Although it’s so muddy looking. Anyone wanna offer me some advice? Getting organized. This pin board helps me keep track of all the lovely people who are trusting me with their stationery needs. I drew this for a baby shower client, but didn’t…

Jeff Bridges

Jeff Bridges is everywhere. Not just because his upcoming films Tron and True Grit are highly anticipated, but because of his artistic abilities. JeffBridges.com features artwork completely hand drawn … by him. It’s really impressive and completely unexpected for an actor. I mean, where does he find the time to draw? And in addition to that, Esquire allowed him to bless the cover of their UK edition with his hand-drawn typography and replaced the logo with his handy-work. Unbelievable, right?! It looks amazing! +

Homemade Films

A while back I contacted A Bryan Photo about documenting some family trips using Super 8 films. They have recently introduced a new package called Homemade Films. You get to borrow one Super 8 video camera, a LOMO, and a Holga. Also included is the film for both and a video tutorial DVD on how to use all the cameras! Once you’re done, you just mail the kit a back to them and they will process, edit and present them back to you in final form. Can you say, fantastic IDEA?! My family goes on about three camping trips every year, and I know one day those will come to an end. How great would…

Support Small Business #1

+ My first of many reasons to support small business. You’ve heard the saying never put all your eggs in one basket, right? Well that’s the case with employment. In every community, there’s always some giant that employs half the town. What happens when that giant moves or closes? Half the town is unemployed and the spirit of a community is broken. It’s the same in the design world, never have the majority of your work with a single client. Why? Because if that client goes to another designer or closes up shop, you’re out of work. Small businesses can employ anywhere from 2-200 workers. When they move or (god forbid) close up shop, then…

Meat & Bread

I am a huge proponent of simple identities and the Meat & Bread identity by Glasfurd & Walker is just that. The strongly typographic identity allows the client to manage their look without a style guide (even though one could be provided), and uses simple components. Labels, Business cards, a rubber stamp – it can’t get much easier. But don’t think this seemingly simple solution comes without hard work. The simpler solution can be more difficult to come by in addition to selling this idea to the client. I think this solution knocks it out of the park! via Below the Clouds
