Twas the Night
Last year I created a hand-drawn card for friends and family. This was the initial sketch and I thought I’d share it here. The shape of the reindeer is formed by the words from the well known story Twas the Night Before Christmas.
My Fair Lady
Design Army creates beautiful design pieces, and the recent issue of Washingtonian Bride & Groom is no exception. I’ve been following the Design Army on twitter (@design_army) and they give little sneak peaks such as these, and I will be going to Barnes & Noble to pick up the issue so that I can ogle at the photos in person. Working at Design Army must be oodles of fun when it comes to their most creative pieces. Just take a look at the Behind-the-Scenes photos above. The swan on the back of the truck at Wal-Mart, I can only imagine! Design Army and the Washingtonian collaborated with the area’s top photographers, stylists, and make-up artists…
Red Cross Gifts
For some odd reason I’ve been obsessed with vintage Red Cross items. So I decided to take a peak at the current website of the American Red Cross and found some items worth purchasing for the holidays. All items are available at the Red Cross online store. You could also donate directly to them which is nice in anyone’s honor.
NYPL.org Redesign
The New York Public Library has given a sneak peak to the public for their new site set to launch January 6th. What do you think? Left: The home page before the redesign, Right: The home page after the redesign. Left: An interior page before the redesign, Right: An interior page after the redesign. While it is obvious the site needed some updating, I’m not so sure that the design for the home page was the absolute best solution for such a resource in New York. There is an FAQ section on the redesign which gives people like me an insight into the process, but something about the home page just isn’t as engaging as…
00′s
New York magazine held a little friendly competition for selected designers to create a cover covering the first decade of the 21st century. The chosen design was created (by hand) by Todd St. John of Hunter Gatherer. Marian Bantjes Alex Trochut
Love Letterpress
I found this lovely image on the Lovely | Duality Flickr Photostream of Snap & Tumble Letterpress. Doesn’t it make you want to get ready for Valentine’s Day already? I know, I know, it’s not even Christmas yet. I can’t help myself. The print was created by Christopher, created at a Snap & Tumble letterpress workshop. Thanks for letting me know Chris!
Industrial Is In
I don’t know about you but I’ve noticed the integration of industrial-style items into home decor. Is it just me? I’ve picked some industrial-type things for my new home office and that’s particularly true when it comes to office supplies. Something about mechanical/industrial items makes me feel more at home. I bought three metal automatic stamps, a stamp carousel (for just $2.50!) and a crazy-weird stapler (for just 25 cents !) that has gold wire staples. My mom gave me some old sewing drawers that I’ve made into catch-all on my desk and when creating my home office had a problem septic pipe in the middle of the floor. So instead of covering it up…
B-Sided Artificial Sneakers
I adore these String Republic artificial sneakers, around $40. Available in many colors and style, but so cute! I’d rock ‘em! (A great alternative to ballet flats!) And don’t miss the Artist editions too, these would be awesome for the man in your life. via Hey Susy
Gift Money
Many people love to receive cash-money for the holidays, so how do you present it in a tasteful way? Here’s a few that I’ve found. Moneyholders from Cake + Milk Paperie, $15.50 for a box of 6 Money Holder from NicePackage on Etsy, $3 for a set of 10 Embossed Money Holders from humblechan on Etsy, $2.75 for a set of 2
