Letterpress Made Simple or Diminished?

The craft of letterpress has a long history and has gained popularity as it’s equipment has been hard to find and creates a quality like no other for printing projects. Recently a company called Lifestyle Crafts has released the L Letterpress Combo Kit that allows anyone to have a letterpress-effect on stationery. I saw it with my own eyes in AC Moore yesterday which led to this post, the effect looks nice but what about the letterpress industry?

While this machine is limited in it’s size, I wonder what effect it will have on the letterpress industry. If you were to purchase a set of letterpress cards from a vendor and found out they used this machine instead of an original C&P or a Kelsey, would you feel ripped off?

Lifestyle Crafts not only offers the L Letterpress Combo Kit, but they also offer pre-made plates, paper, inks, and accessories all to accompany their new L letterpress printer. Will this allow those who are more letterpress savvy to use photo-polymer plates as well? So many questions and concerns on this one, anyone else?
