Sockeye
I’ve seen their work before but I have to admit, this is the first time I’ve seen their website. And boy am I glad I did. They have a lot of nice work. Sockeye Creative is a creative company stationed in Portland, Oregon and their breadth of work is broad and wide. I particularly like their Identity work and can’t help but like the Print section too. And the posters for the Portland Opera … wow! They just tickle my fancy in the right kine of non-perverted sort of way.
Boomerang Promo for Johnny Quest
I wish I knew who creates the promos on the Cartoon Network’s Boomerang channel because this one is just plain awesome. This one uses a game concept and is a great idea! One of the great advantages of working from home is being able to take breaks and catch some of the things on tv.
Gebrauchs-Graphik 1952
I love hunting in antiques stores and this weekend my keen senses helped me to find a wonderful publication on International Advertising Art in German and English. It features grand examples of design in advertising and I could not resist becoming the owner of it. Though it’s mostly in German many of the parts have an English translation with it making it an ideal find. Take a look below at some of the snapshots of it’s pages. Ooooh, you love it to don’t you? I barely even browsed through it at the store but knew it had to be mine as soon as I picked it up. Once I got home and began leafing through…
Picture Me
I wish I could be a subject in Annabel Mehran’s portfolio. The photos are dreamy, real and at times surreal. I’m almost reminded of the soft feel of the movie The Virgin Suicides by Sofia Coppola (one of my favs) and I wish I could be in them. And it’s not just the people she shoots, it’s also the landscapes – you can sense a relationship or connection between her and the image. Just beautiful. I’m so glad I found her site.
74.365 – Party Time!
74.365 – Party Time! Originally uploaded by nikilynn Wow, this gal is super-talented! And this picture reminded me of how much I want to have a great party for my 30th birthday coming up in October. One part of me wants a huge bash with all of my friends and family and the other part of me just wants to be swept away with my main squeeze on a private vacation. I think the big bash side is winning me over. Photo is by nikilynn on Flickr.
Thibaud Herem
I feel so nostalgic lately thinking of how fun and creative children can be. I just found the work of Thibaud Herem which drastically reminds me of the old days of Sesame Street and if they are smart they would immediately contact him, I don’t care that he’s in London – does anyone else? Nice stuff and a cool name, love Thibaud. And the best thing about kids is that they don’t judge right away (well in most situations) and they are so flexible when it comes to visuals. Gotta love it! And Thibaud has many interactive paper works which just make him even more amazing, great design + fun = can’t beat it work!
Icon, Logo or Mark
I’m working on a [fill in the blank] for someone and I don’t know what to call it. Is it a logo? Is it a mark or is it an icon? I’m not sure but I’m still working on the end result – client satisfaction. I sketched out with pencil at first and then in pen/marker a few rounds of different symbols … oh wait, is it symbol? Could be. And have picked out 9 of the best to present to the client. How do you present your ideas to clients? Through email with a PDF? Do you personally visit them and present the work mounted on boards? Since many of my clients live in…
Elsa Chaves
The work from Elsa Chaves is graphic, it’s beautiful and overall – good design. Her clean illustrations and imaginative type is what makes me love the work even more. Elsa is originally from Columbia but now resides in Brooklyn where she and her boyfriend, Tyler Lang run Always With Honor, a “design collective with a focus on icon, information and map design.” I especially dig the cross-stitch typeface (shown above) which recalls memories of my mom showing me how to cross-stitch as a young girl.
Doyald Young & Mohawk
I was blown away by the free promo from SMART Papers featuring the work of Doyald Young titled The Art of the Letter go-or-geous!!!! The book features several sections including a brief lesson on typography, letters and logos broken down into sans serif, serif and script, How I Work and more. The techniques used only enhance his fine work and I strongly suggest that you urgently get a copy for yourself. The printing was completed by ColorGraphics and the letterpress, engraving, foil stamping and blind-embossing was done by The Ligature – and yes, it features all of those techniques! You can also now shop directly on the Mohawk store for all of your favorite papers!…
Craft Design Technology
The design work done for Craft Design Technology on the Winkreative website lead me to their website filled with office goods. I want my office outfitted in all of their products. Thank goodness I’m being frugal with my money or I would have purchased something before I published this post. They have leather products to carry or cover your office goods and lots of your typical objects that are unique. All of their items would make any creative graduate happy. Especially the Roll Pen Case in Leather. And since you’re shopping there supply them with some Craft Design Technology pencils and pens too.
