LHF Hastings Gold
Letterhead Fonts, an invaluable resource for hand-styled sign lettering has some wonderful new fonts. And one of those is Hastings Gold by John Studden. Inspired by packaging from the 1800′s of Hastings & Co, a gold leaf manufacturer. It amazes me how talented typeface developers can be, they are able to develop an entire font out of one line…Unbelievable!
It’s a shame that I could not locate any information or history about the Philadelphia company, but the font is beautiful and a major accomplishment for John who says the following:
When asked what his favorite type of work is, he predictably replies “I enjoy the old period style gold leaf work the most. Sometimes I feel like I was born a hundred years too late.”
If you are like me and like to collect vintage packaging or unique items there are a few of these packages on eBay, but not many! Hastings Gold is available only at Letterhead Fonts and costs just $42. And if you like deals, they have a special going on, $169 for any 5 fonts!

My Father was a sign writer in the City of St. Louis 1940 through 1960

I just saw your info on the internet about the Hastings Company of Philadelphia. I am a writer and am doing a story for an upcoming issue of Cape May Magazine on a Hastings factory in West Cape May in the mid-1800s until 1961. I have a lot of information about the Hastings businesses in Philadelphia. Karen Fox

I have inherited some old Hastings gold leaf. It has the market street address on some of the packages and boxes. I am wondering if there are people who would want to buy this gold leaf, as well as other gold and silver leaf I have.
I inhereted a box almost full of 23 karat gold leaf in the original box. It is 23 karat, measures 3&3/8 by 3&3/8, It is in the original Hastings & Co Box with the 2314 Market St Philadelphia 3,Pa box. I know it tobe at least 60 years old as my father bought it when he used to do a lot of Church restorations. I am interested in selling it. Any interested parties can contact me at richslaj@yahoo.com or call me at 352-597-1570.
I worked at Hasting from 1960 till 1964. They made Gold Leaf, dental gold products.
