Get back Jaqk!
Jaqk Cellars is the child of Hatch, a design company from the San Francisco area. They’ve taken the love of the wine experience and combined it with the love of the casino into one brand new company. The branding has a cohesive look yet each bottle expresses it’s individuality with carefully selected illustration and type. I for one, can’t wait to try the wine (white please!) and hope that this new brand’s taste lives up to it’s image. There’s nothing more disappointing then a great looking product not living up to it’s potential.
Invisible Creature
I’ve been a fan of Brian Posehn for some time now, but now I’m a fan of Invisible Creature too thanks to the poster above. The work of this Seattle based studio uses illustration in the best way imaginable. I first found their website through FFFFOUND, where the Haven illustration was featured and I was immediately hooked. Oh yeah, and just how fun is their splash page? (Seen below.) Make sure you move your mouse around!
Sofa
I love this uber clean site for Sofa, a software and interaction design company based in Amsterdam. They are the company responsible for bringing great apps such as Checkout, Versions and Disco for the mac-lover. And now I understand why the sites for these products have great sites too. They are clean, easy to navigate and thought out. Check out the Made by Sofa site and it’s applications available to purchase. I love their adorable logo shown above. I swoon when good design meets smart development. Bravo!
Lou Dorfsman
Sadly, the web is buzzing with news about the life and work of Lou Dorfsman who has recently passed away. If you’re an in-house designer, I would think that Lou Dorfsman would be your hero. Working for CBS for nearly 40 years joining in 1946 and rising to become the Vice President and Creative Director for advertising and design. In an article published for The Cooper Union, it reads: “Dorfsman’s farreaching influence at the network extended to ideas that went beyond pure graphic design to marketing and advertising as well.” You won’t be disappointed when doing an online search for his work or articles about him, so get out there to get to know the…
Al Capone
Nice logo for a not so nice man. The Al Capone design is by norwegian-based Stationery System and have created a simple and beautiful logo with minor customization of type, the bullet, and fragments. I’m a bit confused as two why it’s being used on a boat but because it’s so fantastic, I don’t care. They could put it on a trash can and I would still love it.
Effects of LSD = A Day at Work
Here’s a website displaying nine drawings that were done by an artist under the influence of LSD over the course of 8-hours as an experiment. The site includes the drawings and quotes from the artist as he goes through each experience. Notice how the sixth one down is reminiscent of Picasso? I knew he had to be on something to create those paintings. The image above are the images from the seventh (left) and eighth (right) final hour. Notice the difference? And his last quote “I have nothing to say about this last drawing” It is bad and uninteresting. I want to go home now.” That’s sort of how I feel after a rough day…
Stationery Outstanding
I just stumbled across the stationery system from Monahan & Rhee for Nicholaeff Architecture & Design on their website and I was blown away. The new york-based company has created an outstanding stationery package for Nicholaeff and deserves any accolades that they can collect on these pieces. Extraordinary. Just look at that stationery, who wouldn’t be proud to hand out that business card or to mail that stationery. Just beautiful!
Vintage Ads
Need inspiration? Check out these vintage ads over on Well Medicated. I love the Western Electric one of the phones! Brilliant! Is is just me or does this ad look like it could have been by Saul Bass? Some more inspiration for the Beastie Boys, listen all y’all it’s a Sabotage! (See the video if you think I’m insane)
Clean Code
Keep your code clean with this handy chart. I’m fairly new to designing my own websites and am not really sure how clean my code is in comparison to others but I must say that I do pay attention to it’s cleanliness and do my best. Although I do use alot of the <br /> tags…oops. I’m guilty on that one.
The Regal Twelve
The Regal Twelve is where the fine arts of Van Eyck and Vermeer (shown above) meets the digital age of Alexa Sinclair. I was really taken away by these images of powerful women throughout the ages that include Cleopatra, Elizabeth I, Catherine the Great and my favorite, Marie Antoinette. And according to Alexa’s website, she is working on “The Royal dozen, the new series that closely follows the themes and style of the Regals with the incorporation of a few new twists.” Can’t wait to see the new series. I don’t know why I have a fascination with Marie Antoinette (for instance every time the move featuring Kirsten Dunst, directed by Sofia Coppola comes on,…
