What are you?

Jason Santa Maria, a fellow KU grad of the Communication Design program, wrote a fun post If you were a typeface, what would you be? It’s been quite  a popular entry and although I can’t decide which typeface I would be (there’s so many!) you can put in your choice over on Jason’s site.

Cornish website

I was doing research today for a new branding project and while doing my research, I came across the Cornish Language Partnership Website Maga. I love their logo, and quite frankly, I enjoy the entire look. There are some adorable elements in their logo and this one on their interior pages: The site uses orange as it’s main color and I thought it was well done for a site that I just happened to find. The logo is made up of the word ‘maga’ meaning ‘to grow, nurture, develop’ in Cornish. The logo was created by Gendall Design. It’s simple and although I had no idea what it meant until I looked it up, it…

Ode to Akidenz Grotesk

A song and video dedicated to Akidenz Grotesk…hee hee, it’s cute!

Me & My Pen

I just saw a snippet of work from Daren Newman of Me & My Pen and love his illustrative and typography talents! He hails from Manchester and has about 20 fabulous samples of his work available on his website.

Inspired by Ink

I’ve been noticing a rise in the design world for tattoo-inspired artwork. I think one of those reason is because of the successful reality shows of Miami Ink, LA Ink, and Inked. They brought the tattoo culture into the homes of many and it’s helping the public to not only understand and accept the ink culture but to enjoy and embrace it. Below are some recent examples of ink inspired design I found online. One Twenty Six One Twenty Six has some of the most refined lettering styles that I’ve seen around and it’s no surprise that this lettering is being applied to apparel at The Brooklyn Circus, smart move on their part. This is…

Freedom Tunnel

Some amazing photos are on view over at citynoise.org with a post by Peter that features images from within Freedom Tunnel in Manhattan. What’s the story behind Freedom Tunnel? The former Amtrak tunnel has been a place of residence for many homeless under Riverside Park in Manhatttan and contains many graffiti pieces on it’s walls. The tunnel got it’s name because some of the most notable artwork was created by graffiti artist, Chris “Freedom” Pape. Don’t hesitate to visit the photoblog for many more amazing images.

Sound Design

I’ve seen a few things circulating regarding sound and design and thought I would pass it on. From Monster and Dr. Dre , a sound product called Beats by Dre Headphones The complaint? “People aren’t hearing the music.” according to the major hip-hop star and producer, Dr. Dre. “Most people can’t handle the bass, the detail, the dynamics. Bottom line, the music doesn’t move you.” With these headphones Dre assures us that we “are going to hear what the artists hear…” The new headphones are available through Apple or at Best Buy (better product shots and info at Apple) and can run you a whopping $349.95 but when it comes to sound wouldn’t you sacrifice…

The Secret Vanity

I love the amazing things I find on Craigslist. It’s a total tease to look at these amazing items, some for sale at a price so cheap it’s almost stealing and some are completely FREE! I saw this Desk/Vanity today with the caption The Secret Vanity and would love, love, love to have something like this for my house. Currently I sit at my computer desk to do my make up and this would just be the perfect piece of furniture for that purpose. The desk surface lifts up to reveal the mirror and four compartments that could hide all of my makeup from visitors. It’s so cute and I would probably repaint it and…

Swiss Love!

I was at my local BP up the street from the office in East Norriton and immediately jumped out of my car to snap some cell phone camera shots of these covers. What are they? Do they have meaning? I don’t care, I just love them!!! By the way, my cell phone camera is the biggest piece of crap … ever. It never ever takes a decent photo.

Yummy Custom Type

Build has created a custom typeface for Faber & Faber‘s new print-on-demand service ‘Faber Finds.’ B-HMMND is a decorative typeface and comes with decorative borders that are generated based on the the book title and genre and are based on designs by none other than Marian Bantjes. Interested in one of these Faber Finds? The Faber website is offering 10% off. On a side note, I love Faber & Faber’s logo and website, nice and clean. Thanks to TypeNeu, a great blog on type-related design.
