Friday Favorite | Outstanding Photography on Flickr

I don’t know what first made me put photos up on to Flickr, but I am amazed time after time in the amount of outstanding photographers on the site. The photo above is by Itou Kouichi of Kyoto, Japan and this particular image is from his Vita collection. Please view and if you’re not in awe of these photos then nothing will awe you. I found the photo above on the site FFFFOUND! and have enjoyed browsing the Italian photographer, Massimo Peana’s photo collections. Some of his best images are of his dog Ray and his self-portraits. Flickr is an amazing resource and thousands if not millions of people are uploading their images that will…

Reservation Impossible

Portfolio.com has found the hardest-to-get reservation. Talula’s Table is located in Kenett Square, Pennsylvania just 35 miles away from Philadelphia. Portfolio calls it the Toughest Table in America and begins the story with a teenage boy standing outside of the restaurant at 7am waiting to reserve a table for his parents. The restaurant is booked through August of next year and serves everything from artisan cheeses to grilled quail. In the nightlife they serve eight course meals and are a BYOB style restaurant. To read the full article, view the article The Toughest Table in America. So who’s behind the Toughest Table in America you ask? Aimee Olexy (shown above) and Bryan Sikora of the…

The Craft Brew Art Movement

We all know and love beer (well at least many do) and from June 1–28 at the Goggleworks in Reading, PA, they have an exhibit dedicated to the design and art of the Brew. Design, Drink and Be Merry will focus on the art, design, packaging and identities that promoted and sold brewery products in the Schmidt Gallery on the second floor of the Goggleworks. I for one, plan on going and you should too! Reading is just one hour northwest of Philadelphia and if you are nearby or passing through you might just want to stop in for the scheduled exhibit. What is the Goggleworks you ask? Click here to find out more.

Home Sweet Home dingbat

I get a nice email on occasion from the Font Bros. where I can see new additions to their site and today I saw this dingbat called Home Sweet Home which struck me as nice. The 30 dingbat font was created by Outside-the-line and some of the pieces remind me of modern furniture and could be used in many applications. Check it out or purchase Home Sweet Home at FontBros.com.

Hotel design inspired by oil rigs of the 50s

Yes, I said oil rigs. Hotel Basico in Playa del Carmen, Mexico has drawn inspiration from oil tankers of the 1950′s into it’s design and decor. The industrial theme is all around you at this unique hotel from exposed pipes and taps along the walls, the elevated platform beds to petroleum tanks turned swimming pools on the rooftop. Hotel Basico was awarded Best Small Hotel by TRAVEL + LEISURE magazine in 2006. Unfortunately the hotel is adult-only but is pet friendly. Rates start at $178 up to $248 and you can view additional information at their website hotelbasico.com. Courtesy of Shine from Yahoo! article One Night Stand: design ideas from the Hotel Basico

Hillman Curtis – Artist Series

I have been thoroughly enjoying the Hillman Curtis videos, called the Artist Series. They are scattered all over the web but you can find interviews with James Victore, Paula Scher, Stefan Sagmeister, Milton Glaser, Debbie Millman and more on YouTube. The best place to view them is probably at the the Hillman Curtis website where you can pick and choose which you would like to view, but by all means, please do go and view them. Truly inspirational. “Graphic design is a big f—in club with spikes in it … you know, and I want to wield it … I want to use it.” Interview with James Victore “Where am I going with Design?” Interview…

Wire & Twine

I love finding a website that was designed well and sells great products in it’s store. Wire& Twine is a group of designers, coders, screeprinters, photographers, artists, moms, dads and down to earth people who like to make things. The site has products for Men, Women and Kids. The products for kids are just super adorable, especially the Smart Tee (shown above) line. $18 My only complaint is that the tees are too gender specific, I problem I find with all kids clothing. The whole idea started when our daughter always wore her Elmo underwear backwards – so she could see his face, naturally. So we started exploring how children view things. The idea to…

The Designer’s Prayer

Selina Hull is convinced that designers are losing their souls to their profession. In response, she created the The Designers Prayer. We designers, who art in employment Hallowed be thy Studio name Thy clients will come Thy briefs will be done On time as it is on budget Give us this day more glorious ideas And forgive us our interior ones As we forgive those who practice bad typography And lead us not into complaint (over long hours and low pay) But deliver us that Black Pencil For thine is the Studio, the Mac, and Adobe For ever and ever Amen Wow. And she has yet to graduate, nothing like going into a profession with…

product of the day | pen clip

Finally someone has created something useful for writers, designers and those in need of a clip that attaches their tool to their books. The Pen Clip attaches to any notebook and is available in two sizes!!! Long at 3.5 in. and Short at 2.7 in. Available on Charles and Marie, The Quintessential Lifestyle Navigator, featured in the Tragically Hip section and they cost just $16 each. A little much in my opinion but it could become one of those tools that I can’t live without. The Pen Clip was found on NotCot.org. This product deserves to be the Product of the Day and if you want one, you better get it now because this will…
