Feeling like Argyle
I’ve had a quiet build up of yearning for the Argyle pattern. I’m not sure what it is, I especially love the Argyle sweaters at J.Crew. So cute! I’ve been thinking about doing a trim on my curtains for the patio doors with an argyle pattern. It would probably look really good, now I just have to get the motivation to sew. My mom has a natural talent for sewing or creating anything crafty, me … not so much. I love creating, especially with paper but when it comes to fabric I run away like a dog with my tail between my legs. But I’ve made a promise to myself to get more crafty with…
Design Philadelphia
DesignPhiladelphia has a great post on my hometown of Oley, Pennsylvania. I movcd from Reading to Oley in the first grade and lived there until recently. I now live in Laureldale, a suburb of Reading but still take pleasure in passing through Oley on my way to work in Norristown. I find so much pleasure in the views and the landscape. There are days when I wish I had my camera with me and regret not taking more photos. For instance, when it has rained the night before and there is a large mist on the ground and you can see the mountains just peeking above, it’s amazing! Kevin Derrick has captured some wonderful images…

Shannon | Wedding Invitations
Busy, busy, busy! I’ve been busy filling up my time with a new house and friends wedding invitations. (See photos below) Shannon and Anthony are getting married in May and chose a simple color palette but a beautiful invitation for their special day. I’ve been doing quite a bit of printing and keeping myself busy assembling the invitation suite. The house has been keeping us hopping since the end of February and it’s coming along, slowly but surely. I love every morning waking up and feeling the sense of a home owner’s pride. It’s a nice feeling and I can’t wait to see what happens in this house over time. Our living room looks great…
Mom, Dad … can I go to TypeCamp?
When I was in my elementary school years I loved going to camp (for the most part), I took part in Camp Fire Girls and one summer even went to Camp Cadet, a camp run by the Pennsylvania State Police. I got to fire off an M-80 machine gun and try out tear gas. Writing this out it doesn’t sound like much fun, but it was. I remember exercising every morning, (something I should probably get back to) competing in group activities and winning medals for those and spending lots of time with new and old friends. Camp Fire Girls was probably the best times, arts & crafts, songs and marshmallows by the fire, camp…
Fun with Facebook
One of the recent communities to join Facebook is none other than Design Observer, the blog with writings about design and culture. I joined Facebook probably last year some time after a friend invited me and to tell you the truth I probably log-in once every few months. But today after joining the Design Observer group on the site I stumbled on to another group named “You Know You’re a Graphic Designer When…” with a long list of points to relate to as a Graphic Designer. Some of them are really funny and some of them are too true to dismiss. My favorites are below: You are completely immune to subliminal advertising Your hand is…
Best of New York or best of Spec Work?
New York magazine held a competition where they put various agencies, designers and design firms against each other to create “The Best of New York” cover. Unfortunately I don’t have much information to go on except for what was posted on nymag.com which highlights the top 10 entries from the likes of Wolff Olins, Carin Goldberg, Alan Dye and more. I get very confused when competitions like this are held and participated in by well known and highly held designers yet on the other end of the spectrum the No Spec movement is being pushed every chance it can. Is this considered spec work, did they get paid? If they did get a paycheck for…
