Digital Artist – John W. Golden

Two days and counting to the new house and I stumbled upon the greatest artwork for my 4-year old son’s bedroom. John W. Golden, a digital artist has a store on Etsy filled with great prints of animals, robots and more. His prints average around $20, and sets from $48–$50. It’s a wonderful way to add artwork into a room and if you have a playful side or kids, then this is the store for you. The robots are especially great, if you have a boy or know a boy at heart, then these will make great gifts or decoration. John also has amazing prints with illustrations of “critters” with adorable names such as “Persnickety…

A sketchy look at Graphic Design

There is an interesting article over at Coroflot (thanks to DO for the link) regarding sketching as a necessary skill for graphic designers. In “Question the Cult of the Sketch” they refer to a presentation given by a creative director from Nike hiring creative staff with the ability to sketch. I have to agree and say that it’s clear when a person can express themselves or their ideas through sketching and that they understand how to take an idea and put it into form on paper, whether it be printed or illustrated. In fact, isn’t this how we all got started? Design Matters host, Debbie Millman loves to ask a question she once heard from…

Jason Munn – The Small Stakes

I’ve seen Jason Munn’s work of The Small Stakes many times before. In the design annuals, online, and I’m not sure where else but he deserves every ounce of press that he gets. Jason lives in Oakland, California and although originally from Wisconsin his work has become a fixture of the independent music industry. His work is simple and dynamic and it is no wonder why his studio, The Small Stakes is unfolding into a successful independent studio. His work above for the music group Stars is what originally captured my interest and the ornate pattern with the skeleton key silhouettes are just beautiful. And not only do I love the poster but I am…

Letman, an Artist of types.

I’ve been paying more and more attention to typography these days and so my craving for type-focused design has been growing as well. I’ve seen many sites featuring this designers work and after looking at his site, I like him even more. The site describes the works of Letman as: He is cuckoo about letters, he loves them, so far is certain. He is also one of those fellows who can read a chunky novel in a couple of hours, but that’s a different story. His designs are transparant, leaving room to breathe. Them letters got things to say, they are so clear it tickles your eye and make you blink. What is this colourful…
