Where the Wild Things Are … Movie?!?
I am so excited, just a few days ago stills were released from Warner Brothers of the upcoming Where the Wild Things Are movie directed by Spike Jonze. I truly hope this movie will be for not only adults who know and love this story but also for children. I have a four-year old and would take him to see this movie in a heartbeat as long as I knew it was appropriate for him. I can not wait to see trailers for this, good luck Spike!!! “An adaptation of Maurice Sendak’s classic children’s story, where Max, a mischievous little boy, creates his own world – a forest inhabited by fabulous wild creatures who crown…
Featured Designer | Richard Sarson
While browsing the internet last night I stumbled upon Richard Sarson’s work from the QBN website. For the longest time I’ve been reminiscing about my old Spirograph and love for symmetry and geometry. I don’t know what it is about these fun forms that are amazingly beautiful but they intrigue me and knowing that he does this all with a compass and pigment ink on paper makes me appreciate his work even more. His Circle Project series are what drew me in (no pun intended) to view more on his site. These are what reminded me most of my old Spirograph (shown below). His work in a sense is being a human Spirograph minus the…
Background of Type
I love this background made up of a single phrase in an eye-pleasing pattern on ServiceIsGood.com. If I could figure out something witty to say, I would put a similar style background on my site…hmmm maybe those quotes below my page titles could work. The site is nicely done and has some cute products for sale too, check out the store! 0
Christmas Cheat Sheets
I saw these Christmas Cheat Sheets on Andy Rutledge’s site, Design View and I just had to admit that this was a great idea for the holidays. Christmas Cheat Sheets for men and women (labeled as boy and girl) created by Made in England are a great way to provide your significant other with your measurements to make their holiday shopping a tad bit easier. It’s always a hassle around gift-giving time and this helps when you have no idea whether she’s a 34 C or a 34 B and if you choose the latter and that’s not her size, be prepared! Visit the Made in England by Gentlemen site to download these free sheets!…
Desktop Wallpaper for the Holidays
Kevin Cornell over at Bearskin Rug has designed a wonderfully illustrated wrapping paper now available as Desktop Wallpaper for your viewing pleasure. The illustrated design features four different Santa Clause-types according to a little research that Kevin did. The design was created strictly for the 2007 Holiday Party for AIGA New York and is not available to purchase but you can download it for free from Kevin’s site for your Desktop. Also on his site he gives a brief explanation to each Santa Claus depiction and as always, is entertaining and uses his unique sense of humor. 0
Sketch of the Week
I am trying to be a bit more disciplined and not lack in my drawing. I’ve been really lazy when it comes to sketching lately, so I’ve decided to do it whenever I can get a spare moment. Sketch of the Week – 12/07/2007 0
A Perfectly Good Font Joke
A Perfectly Good Font Joke, from the stand-up comedian, Christian Finnegan on his album Two for Flinching. It’s too funny, too funny. [Audio clip: view full post to listen] 0
Fooling Around
Browsing the AIGA home page, I found the article titled A Foolproof Technique for Fooling Around by Ralph Caplan. Basically, it is a partly humorous post citing: “design, combining the cerebral and emotional, is a process relying heavily on just fooling around.” At one point he looks back to the days of paste-ups, before the digital age had dominated the design industry and then compares the technique of using hot wax on the back of an index card with the modern day Post-It notes as a way to organize ideas on a wall. Leaving the decision up to the hold of the wax to the wall he presents us with the situation of flipping a…
Works in Paper
Nickolya’s etsy shop features Works in Paper to transform a commonplace material and create something extraordinary. Using ordinary pieces of paper or even at times bills of money, a silhouette is cutout of a scene or city skyline for a fun and unique product (maybe even a gift). All of these “work in paper” are currently on sale in Nickolya’s etsy shop for $45, originally priced at $60. The seller only known as Nickolya, is a Visual Communication at the Queensland College of Art in Australia with a background in architecture. He attempts to create an in-between state of 2-D and 3-D forms free from preconception and noise. He explores ideas connected with cities, urban…
FontShop Review
For the past week I’ve featured a Font site every and today is the last one, my favorit FontShop. Font Shop “FontShop is the original independent font retailer. We’ve been around since the dawn of digital type. Whether you need the right font or need to create the right font from scratch, let our 16 years of experience work for you” FontShop is probably my first choice for searching for type. They have an enormous catalog of type and make it easy to search, test and buy fonts. They also send out a well done email newsletter featuring a few hand-picked typefaces from their catalog. When searching their catalog, you can choose from criteria such…
